After the Thanksgiving holiday, Cole and I had a half-joking, half-serious conversation about our health and our lifestyle choices. Living healthy and going green seems to be on the rise in America, but so does obesity and fast food. We took a look at what we eat on a weekly basis, which is always up and down depending on our photography schedule. Everyone knows its difficult to eat well during a strenuous travel season. I thought about the new Paleo diet fad thats going around these days. Cole suggested going on a juice fast. I was against it until I watched Fat, Sick, & Nearly Dead, an independent film documentary made by Joe Cross. And I was sold, all the way through. The two main characters lost 7 or 8 bowling balls worth of weight in less than 3 months. Of course they were dealing with high-level obesity, but regardless, the consistent level of vegetable and fruit juices ridded their bodies of hazardous by-products, and by drinking just 3 glasses instead of meals, infused them with the nutrients of 6 or 7 plates of raw, true forms of food produced by none other than plain-old Mother Nature! Of course you can’t live on just juice, but the fast is to reboot your body into desiring the right minerals and nutrients in the right proportions. I’m telling you, it’s insane to watch what happens to these men in this film!
So cheers to health and to a 5-day fast Cole and I start tomorrow. I’ll keep you posted and we’ll see how it goes. Apparently the first two days make you feel…well, weak and nauseated, simply because your body is detoxing and getting rid of all the filth that sticks to your colon when you eat bad food. And then all the days after that are supposed to increase energy, cure skin issues, and reboot your system.
Everyone who knows me knows that I love bad food. (If you don’t, just look back at my “BK Lounge” post a while back!). But truth be told, this documentary changed the way I looked at food and I’m hoping after the fast, I’ll have a more consistent eating habit. Not to say Cole and I don’t want to enjoy the occasional treat…but we are hoping to end up juicing for one meal a day and eating meat 3 times a week at most. We also wanted to bring healthy bodies to the Christmas table since Thanksgiving took so much out of us…well, rather put too much in us!
The full movie is below and trust me, it’s worth the watch!! If the movie below isn’t working for you, go here instead.
